What To Do After Cosmetic Surgery....Post Op Instruction...Liposuction, Tummy Tuck
Introduction
Liposuction, is one of the fastest growing forms of Cosmetic Surgery. Have you notice all of Hollywood has flat tummies? Well that's obtained largely through this form of surgery. Surgery of any kind comes with risks, so even though it might seem like a minor surgery, liposuction is surgery nevertheless. After any surgery there are do and don'ts, post surgery. So, let's get to the post op instructions.
Immediately After Surgery
- Minimize your activity within the first two weeks, i.e. no strenuous exercise, lifting pulling, or pushing so as to not incur increased swelling.
- Light movement is permitted so as to help minimize discomfort and facilitate reduction of swelling.
- Leave the surgical compression garment on until otherwise instructed by your physician, (usually for at least 3-4 weeks). Garment may be removed prior to showering and washed/dried according to manufacture's instructions.
- Once cleared to shower (usually after 1 day), you may do so every day.
- No alcohol for approximately 2 weeks after surgery, as it can cause fluid retention.
- Do not drive until you are no longer taking any narcotic pain medications.
You Can Expect
- After surgery to find small incision sites covered with gauze and tape.
- Some oozing of light colored bloody drainage, especially if the Tumescent technique is performed.
- Sutures to be removed 7 days post op.
- Moderate discomfort that should be relieved by pain medication.
- Moderate amounts of swelling and bruising around and below the treated area(s), that may last up to 6 weeks.
Call The Office If You Experience
- If you have severe increased pain not relieved or responding to pain medication(s).
- Incisions that appear to be opening or becoming very red, hot to the touch or containing purulent drainage.
- If you have excessive bleeding from the incisions that isn't controlled with light pressure.
- If you have any yellowish/greenish foul smelling drainage from the incisions.
- If you have a fever (100.4).
DO NOT SMOKE! SMOKING INCREASES THE RISK OF COMPLICATIONS AND DELAYS THE HEALING PROCESS.
