WHAT ARE DOLLS OF TODAY COMING TO

Dolls
When I posed the question, "what are dolls of today coming to I was thinking of the evolution of dolls today. I've seen dolls that I would have loved to have had when I was a child, or at the very least had when my daughters were little. I've also seen dolls that I would not let any child I know, even know they exist.
I've heard of a doll that gives birth, dolls that are anatomically correct, scantily clad dolls, and more that the very young could live without. A good portion of these are dolls are advertised for the very young. I'm sure some will disagree with me on my opinion of these dolls. I think the very young need to keep their innocence as long as they can. I'm not advocating the suppressing of knowledge of the facts of life, however some things can wait.

The Dolls
My daughter and I went to Toys R Us and bought my granddaughters two of the most fascinating dolls. They're called "You & Me." We bought the "Too Cute Twins." Now these are talking dolls, however that's not the amazing thing. The amazing thing is that they interact. What I mean is, these dolls actually talk to each other, (as long as they're within five feet of each other). One doll will initiate the conversation and the other will respond, they actually talk as if they're real people, kind of "freaky," but in a fun kind of way. The instructions say they have over 100 phrases. They sing songs, play games, ask for food and make eating and drinking sounds. Of course, they're battery operated, and thank goodness for that, because they can be shut down, when they become irritating. These dolls are wonderful for my granddaughters age group, frankly they are good for my age, too. LOL!

The Dolls and My Granddaughters
The girls are so carried away with these little beauties, secretly, I am too, we play with them for hours on end. Actually, I'm living vicariously through my sweeties, especially with these little dolls. I'm anxious to see what else this brand has to offer. Remember my hub Who is the World's Worst Grandmother, well as that hub says in the end, I'm no longer considered that, thank goodness, I'm having the time of my life, with these little girls and now the little boy. So my knowledge of what's out there in the doll world is being revived, due to the addition of the girls to our family. I have more pictures, take a look.

Hey, thank you fastfreta for a fantastic doll hub, thank for sharing it. God bless you. creativeone59
What, no dolls that do absolutely nothing? What is the world coming to! (smile). Yes, the young do keep us young, in spirit anyway. Sometimes I think it is a bonus gift from God.
Thanks for sharing.
Very nice.
I have a little girl...but she doesn't play with dolls. She has never even asked for one. We bought her one when she was too little to ask, but she has never played with it.
She has our old Cabbage Patch dolls but they are at the bottom of the toy box. I still love dolls and I have a small collection of those porcelain collectible dolls. I really enjoyed this article and I agree that some of the dolls on the shelves are not going into my child's toybox...not that she would want one anyway.
Thanks for another great Hub!
Tammy
Dolls that interact? - wow, that's a new one! We were doll girls growing up - but it was good to have a brother and male cousins because they got trains and I got to play with the trains which I still love to this day.
Thanks for the hub!
You are so right fastfreta. Dolls have evolved so much over the years. Much like yourself, I do beleive that much consideration should go into what dolls we choose for our children. I think I get as much enjoyment out of the toys I buy for my girls as they do.
You've got beautiful grandkids.
Interesting Hub, I wonder how long you took in Toys R Us - you get so spoilt for choice in that place. I also love your family photo. Is that lady in lilac your younger sister? lol.
You took me down memory lane. I had loads of dolls when I was young but it's the dolls that my nanny used to teach me how to braid hair. That's how I learnt to braid.
Thanks for a lovely Hub. I'm sure your grand children will be over the moon when they open their gifts.
Ps. Lovely to see you on the Home Page today.
The dolls today are unrealistic. When I was a child, I had a simple doll and it wasn't sexualised like it is today. I wish we can bring back innocence to our children.
Wow...I think this is perhaps my favorite of all the hubs you have written fastfreta. Your family photos are so beautiful. Your grandchildren look so happy and healthy.
I do not know much about dolls. I only know of one doll I had as a child which was actually bigger than me. She was indeed a doll. You taught me more about dolls in this hub than I ever knew about them. Thank you for sharing such warm thoughts about your family and the dolls that you purchased. Enjoy the time with your grandchildren and their dolls.
Gosh you are plessed when I saw that photo. Children don't really like all these sophisticated toys. They like simple things which can play with and add their imagination. Thank you for your lovely hub.
Have a nice day!
I miss my dolls - they were awesome as a child :D I wish I could buy dolls of today and play with them but people might think I am wacky!
LOL, It's funny because the dolls that kids have today is what I always wished my dolls could do when I was growing up. I must have been born way ahead of my time! :)
Your grandchildren looks like dolls themselves, they are simply beautiful. Have a great Christmas, and thanks for sharing!
That's funny!!! Enjoy your new loves. Enter the world of your grandchildren, It makes for a strong family bond.
I love Toys r us. I shop there for my daughters all the time. My daughters are 10 and 13 and are in love with dolls and we still have a cabbage patch doll.
Great hub. You have a beautiful family. I agree some of the dolls these days do about everything.
How cute ... I miss those old kiddie days :)
& thanks for sharing your family photos :)
Great dolls. Beautiful family you have there!
You're a doll.
I enjoyed this hub and I can relate to it as well. We didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up but once when I had the measles my parents bought me the Mrs. Beasley doll from that show Family Affair and I was so happy, I loved that doll. I am probably showing my age but who cares that was my all time favorite doll. Good hub.
Great hub. Reminded me I once played with dolls I'm gonna buy one now.
Great hub! Your right things are not like they use to be. I LOVED the pictures of your beautiful grandbabies.
fastfreta Darling hub. I have 3 daughters so dolls we had. I have some I put away before they were opened. Barbies and Spice Girls. They are still wrapped up. My youngest is 20. Years ago my oldest daughter sold all her cabbage patch dolls at our yard sale when I ran an errand to get drinks. A woman came by the baby sitter knew no different and off went ten of them for $4 or $5 dollars. I laugh today. Not so that day.
I look forward to being a Grandma. Little girls are so much fun. I am a twin I must get the twin dolls. We do have a secret language. You have a beautiful family. I enjoyed the humor and warmth in your writing. I love the bathtub picture and dress up. They are all priceless. Hugs fastfreta. I have a couple new hubs come by and visit.
My Love. In his name + + +
hi, dolls are very important part of growing up of any girl all over the world. Yes you are right the dolls have evolved too and they now have all kind of dolls which i feel not everydoll is right for kids. but then kids mature so early than us mearly 10 years ago.
Baby dolls today adds more to the imagination for children. More advanced, more fun, and more imagination. Thanks
Excellent hub, I have five nieces and they all love dolls, which proves expensive around Christmas time, but noone of them can stand talking dolls which is a joy to all involved lol

What, no Barbie doll? We all miss toys from our childhood, right fastfreta?
