On The Road With Fastfreta...Texas
Texas
Well here I am in Fort Worth, Texas. Dorothy, another friend of over 35 years, met me at the Depot. Another very hot stop, (104 degrees and above). I don't mind though, I'm just happy to be here.
The train ride took two nights, and one day, and, was again fine, except, as before, my sleeping arrangement. I don't know if I've explained how this works. If you don't get a sleeping cabinet,(too costly for me), you sleep at your seat. The problem with that is, there are two seats side by side, and there's no arm rest, or any kind of divider between the two passengers, and unless you're related that can be a little awkward. Turning over and looking into the face of my seatmate, I told her, the last time I turned over to look into the face of someone this close, it was my husband, so you see how close we were to each other. LOL! Needless to say I couldn't sleep for two nights. Oh, I dozed and nodded from time to time in the Observation Car. So I guess you can say I did sleep a little. Again that was my only complaint. I enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. I brought along my "Samsung Galaxy Tab", and played "Words with Friends, and Word Feud with various opponents, and my daughter. Being a reader, I did that too. So you see I was not bored.
Some one asked me to explain the Tablet. Well I found it to be very useful. I've downloaded two entire books, but I've not taken the time to read them. I check and read my email daily, I play games with total strangers, oops, I said I don't meet strangers, well in this case I do. As long as they don't talk to me I'm okay, for some reason that kind of freaks me out. I've also downloaded several of my favorite old songs, for free, and listen to those on the road when time allows. Oh yes I've also made several videos of my time on the road, and if I can figure this thing out I'll include some of those along the way. So you see these tablets can be real handy. Oh yes, and I just found out how to use the HotSpot feature, so when I embark on my next leg I'll be able to do more.
Friday
So I arrive in Fort Worth, Texas at about 2:30 pm, and Dorothy has my entire stop over planned, (how exciting). Friday, Dorothy, myself, and about eight of her, and now my closest friends went out to eat. Oh say, have I ever explained, I never meet a stranger? I make friends with most people I meet, or at least acquaintances. Anyway we spent the evening at what is called the Stock Yards, eating and enjoying the scenery. The scenery included the Water Gardens, (pictures enclosed). My new close friends are, Lisa, Sallie, Rose, Nefi, Armentia, Hollis, Dorothy, and Nimmi.
This Fort Worth night was 98 degrees, but for some reason it didn't seem as hot, with friends laughing and talking. Friday night I fell into bed and slept like a log, thank goodness.
Saturday
Saturday, I met for the first time since she's been an adult Dorothy's lovely daughter, Reyna and her beautiful family. Then we went to another daughter's (Evelyn) to have lunch, we included, Dorothy, Lasharlotte, BD, Rose, Tricia, and Me, for a very delicious lunch. Pictures enclosed.
Sunday
After a very uplifting spiritual meeting. I was treated to dinner at PF Chang's, by Dorothy and friends, which included a very beautiful 94 year old young lady. I tell you if I can be half as alert at 94, should I reach that age, it will be a blessing. An early bedtime, because Monday is departure date for Oklahoma, also brunch at another one of Dorothy's daughters, (Tricia), house.
Monday
Departure day, but first brunch at Tricia's. Brunch consisted of a very tasty homemade dip, (oops I forgot what kind it was), but it was good, anyway, there was also a very mild champagne drink. The reason I'm forgetting is because I'm writing this days after I left Texas, sorry about that. However, Tricia was not only very hospitable, but she was loads of fun. See pics!
Oh, on this day I caught up with another long time friend, Sheena, from California, she delivered me safely to the train, and stayed with me until my train left. We had a very brief, but encouraging visit. By the way I'll see Dorothy on my way to Atlanta, it's because of the way Amtrak routed me. To get to Atlanta, I must go from Oklahoma back to Fort Worth, on to Chicago, then to Washington D.C, ending in Atlanta, more about that later. Anyway I had to leave a piece of luggage with Dorothy, because I could not take it on the Oklahoma leg, because the trip between Fort Worth and Oklahoma was so short, (only 5 hours), you could only carry your luggage on the train with you, no checked luggage, and they allowed only two pieces, in addition to your back pack, laptop, and purse.
Very short, uneventful trip to Oklahoma.
Stay Tuned
Well, I'm actually in Oklahoma writing this, days after my arrival, so I must publish this now. But I'm already in the midst of my Oklahoma article, so I'll try to get that done by the first day on the trip to Atlanta. You see I'm having so much fun I can't sit still long enough to write. So please stay tuned, I won't take so long to publish the Oklahoma leg. So long for now.
