My Kind Of Music III...Barbra Striesand
Here Comes Another One
Okay, I'm enjoying this a bit too much. I hope you are too, because I can't seem to stop. If you haven't checked out my prior two articles of this series, please go back and do so now. They are "My Kind of Music, and My Kind of Music II."
Lou Rawls
Lou Rawls
Lou Rawls was born Louis Allen Rawls in 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. Rawls was known for his smooth vocal style: Frank Sinatra said of him that he had "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game". Rawls released more than 70 albums, and sold more than 40 million records. And if you have a chance to listen to more of his work and you'll begin to see why Sinatra said what he did. Lou Rawls died in January 2006, at age 72. For more on Mr. Rawls check him out on Wikipedia under Lou Rawls.
Johnny Mathis
Johnny Mathis
There are so many of these very beautiful songs by Johnny Mathis that I didn't know where to start. Please go over to YouTube and take a listen, and when you do, you'll see why he's one of my all time favorite male performers. Mathis was born Johnny Royce Mathis in 1935, in Gilmer Texas, he grew up in San Francisco. His music genres are, pop, soul, and easy listening. For more info, check out his website using this link, Johnny Mathis.
Patti LaBelle
Patti LaBelle
Patti LaBelle was born Patricia Louise Holte, in 1944 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, USA. Ms LaBelle began her career in the early 60's as part of a girl group, (The Bluebells). She went on to form another girl group, this time using her own last name, LaBelle. Now she's known only as Patti LaBelle, very appropriate. Patti's performance is a must see, it's like nothing you've ever seen, unless you've seen her perform. For more information on Ms. LaBelle follow this link.
Steve Winwood
Steve Winwood
Okay, I didn't know where to put Mr. Winwood. He's been performing since the 60's, but his work I appreciate the most is from the 80's onward, this song for instance is from 1997, and "Back in the High Life" is from 1986. Winwood was born Stephen Lawrence Winwood in 1948, in Handsworth, Birmingham, England, UK. His genres are, rock, blue eyed soul, blues, and psychedelic rock. The blues aspect came as a result of playing the organ and guitar as back up for some of the legendary blues greats, such as Bo Diddley, B. B. King, Howling Wolf, T Bone Walker, Chuck Berry and more. This probably explains why I find his music so appealing. Check out his bio on Wikipedia, under Steve Winwood.
Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand was born Barbara Joan Streisand in 1962, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Ms Streisand is a singer-songwriter, actress, film producer and director. A few Streisand facts are, she's won, two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards, a Special Tony Award, An American Film Institute Award and A Peabody Award. Whew! What accomplishments for someone who's said to have stage fright. She's said to hold the record for the most top ten albums of any female recording artist. I not only appreciate her singing, her acting is not too shabby either. There's so much more information on this most talented lady that I urge you to go over and pick up where I left at, Wikipedia, under Barbra Streisand.
The End, Not Really
This is the end of this installment, but not the end of the series. As I said before, I'm having way too much fun with this. Stay tuned.
If you missed the first two installments, follow the links below and, go over and take a look and a listen.
