My Kind Of Music...Anne Murray

Updated on May 18, 2014

My Kind Of Music

My daughter and I were riding along one day, and listening to one of our favorite radio stations, I say ours because my daughter has learned to appreciate "my kind of music," and I hers. Anyway, we heard a song that I had forgotten, "Drift Away," and for some reason I could not remember the artist. Dobie Gray came to mind but it didn't sound right, but alas it was. This prompted me to look up some of my favorite 60's and 70's music. I hope you enjoy these songs they way I did, and still do.

Dobie Gray

Dobie Gray was born July 26, 1940, as either Lawrence Darrow Brown, or Leornard Victor Ainsworth in either Simonton or Brookshire Texas. This is kind of strange, however I don't want to list it wrong, so I include both names and both places of birth. None of this diminishes my admiration for the man that I call Dobie Gray, or rather his music. Another one of his 60's hits that I'm particular fond of is "The In Crowd." Actually "Drift Away was a hit in 1973 and sold over 1 million copies. For more information check out his bio on, wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobie_Gray

Anne Murray

Anne Murray, born Morna Anne Murray in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1945. "Murray was the first Canadian female solo singer to reach #1 on the U.S. charts, and also the first to earn a Gold record for one of her signature songs, "Snowbird." Her music genres are, pop, country, and adult contemporary. Anne Murray is one of my favorite singers of all times. Hits such as "You needed me, A little good new," tops my number one chart. For more info on Ms. Murray check her out on her website, annemurray.com.

Sam Cooke

Sam Cooke was born Samuel Cooke in 1931 in Clarksdale Mississippi, USA, aka, Dale Cooke. He was considered to be one of the founders and pioneers of "soul music." During his short life, (he died at age 33), Cooke's success was almost unmeasurable. He was credited with contributing to the rise of popular Soul singers, like Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and many, many more.

In addition to his other successes Sam Cooke had 29 top 40 hits between 1957-1964. He also took an active part in the Civil Rights Movement. Cooke also founded a record label and publishing company as an extension of his dual careers as a singer and composer. For more info on Sam Cooke, check him out on Wikipedia, Sam Cooke.

Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart was born Roderick David Stewart, in 1945, in North London, England. Stewart has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artist of all times. His music genres are, rock, pop, rhythm and blues, and blues-rock.  For more info check out Stewart's website, rodstewart.com/us/home.

Chuck Jackson

Chuck Jackson was born on July 22, 1937, in Latta, South Carolina but raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jackson is one of the first artist to successfully record material by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. For more info check out his bio at wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Jackson

Jackie Wilson

This just happens to be my all time favorite singer.  Incidentally he was suppose to be my husband, LOL.  He was born Jack Leroy Wilson in 1934 in Detroit Michigan.  I found a website dedicated to his memory, jackiewilson.net/JW_pages, yes I said memory.  Wilson died in 1984 at the age of 49.  As you check him out on YouTube, please take a listen to some of his music.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin was born Aretha Louise Franklin in 1942, in Memphis Tennesee, USA. Although Ms. Franklin has been dubbed THE QUEEN OF SOUL, her music genres include, jazz, gospel, blues and R&B. Instead of trying to condense her life's history into such a small space, I'll let you look at her bio on Wikipedia, under Aretha Franklin. Ms. Franklin is and always will be one of my most favorite female vocalist.

I Like This

I really like this I might just do it again.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did let me know, leave me your expressions in a comment.
