I Lost My Home To Foreclosure

Updated on January 21, 2014

My Former Home

Let Me Explain

Yes, I lost my home to foreclosure, but, before you raise the pity flag, or send me derogatory comments, please hear me out. I'd like to state for the record here, there's no one person to blame for this outcome, I'm not even accepting all the blame, it's just the times we're living in, and it's happening to so many, why not me. I digress, anyway this is not an entirely sad thing to me, because it's allowing me to do something that I've wanted to do for a long time. I've always had the wanderlust, so I actually plan to spend a year traveling the country, visiting family, and friends, or just seeing sights, and places, that I've always wanted to see. I could possibly travel abroad, if the occasion presents itself, we'll see. At this point however, I'm going to "ride the rails," as it were. In other words I intend to do my state to state hopping by Amtrak. I'll be coming to a city near you. I'm going to live a life of a vagabond for 1 year, because I have no permanent residence, (and not independently wealthy), at this point, nothing to tie me down. I do, however, plan to return to Southern California, because, I Love Southern California. I plan to use this adventure in a positive way, (I'll explain later). I also plan to chronicle it here on HubPages, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. So, keep on the lookout. The trip won't start immediately, I'm trying to put my "ducks" in order.

I will be out of the house by the first week in May. I have been planning this adventure since I found out that I would be losing my home. The reason I'm writing this now is because I wanted to be sure it was beyond hope, (the saving of my home), because I didn't want anyone to think that I was soliciting funds. I also didn't want suggestions on how to save it, because believe me, if there was a way I would have found it, so you see I've exhausted all avenues, up to this point. Nothing short of a miracle can save it now, and I'm not sure I would want it anyway. Because, at this point I'm so in love with my idea, and almost married to it, that I don't think I would want any changes.

Melancholy

Let me get a little melancholy here for a bit. I've lived in this home for 40 years 5 months. My ex-husband, and I converted a two bedroom, one bath home into a 5 bedroom, 4 bath home with our "own little hands." Over the years we remodeled a few times. Take a look at the pics, to see some of the last remodel, that I did a few years ago. All, but one, of our children were born while we lived in the home. The house has been affectionately known as "Sailor Inn," owing to the fact that it's been a temporary home to numerous, men, women, children, and whole families, needing a helping hand. This is one of the reasons I'm a little sad, (no more "Sailor Inn"). I operated a business for over 17 years from this location, employing over 50 people. Everyone that I called friend, (I never meet a stranger), who's ever lived anywhere close to me has broken bread here. So many memories. Okay, enough of that now.

How I Lost It

I, like a lot of other unfortunate ones got caught up in the real estate debacle. I honestly thought I could make my payments. I had a business, (I've always been an entrepreneur), that, at the time was doing okay. I actually had run the business from home for sometime, even traveling to other states, with plans for expansion, which were set to go. So, naturally I thought I could make the payments, (see my boutique below). I had savings, 401k, stocks, etc. so everything looked good. In one fell swoop it all went away, no one was buying new clothes, and who could blame them, they were in the midst of losing everything too. So after exhausting all of my "back-up," I landed here. I went through all of the recommended steps to salvage my home, modification, etc. Of course there's more, but this is the short of it.

Conclusion

I said before that I'm going to explain my complete plans for my travels. I'll do that in a future hub. So stay tuned.

Because I am a somewhat private person, this hub just might stay up or not, I'll see as I go along.

The real reason I'm writing this article is to chronicle the beginning of my new life. Please stay tuned for updates, and new hubs related to this subject.

Do you know anyone who has lost a home to foreclosure?
