Cool Computer Word Games For All Ages

Updated on November 11, 2011

Cool Games

I love word games, so when I'm not writing I spend some of my time playing computer games, especially word games. A few cool words games I've found are listed below.

New Word Games

I just had to list these two games first. My new all time favorites are Words With Friends, by Zynga, and Wordfeud, a game specifically for your IPhone or Android phones. The games are almost identical. The layouts are basically the same, with Words with friends having a light background, and Wordfeud having a black background. To understand the minor differences you'd have to play both, which I do. They both provide the ability to communicate with your opponent, which I don't particularly care for. I've found that there are a few playing the game with ulterior motives. Especially in Wordfeud, where you can download a photograph. So be very careful with that one. Other than that I am so in love with both games. I generally have about 20 games going on each site, at one time. You can have individual games that run for days, because you don't have to continue to play. It sorta reminds me of Chess, in that you can make a play, and go away and do something else, with no one expecting you to continue to play immediately. I've noticed that the bugs are not completely ironed out on either. However, that hasn't stopped me from playing. So if you are a word game enthusiast I highly recommend these two games. Oh, I failed to mention, you can play Words With Friends on Facebook. By the way both can be downloaded for free, but with a ton of ads. However if you want ad free games you can purchase them that way. I think Wordfued was only about 2.99, which is a one time fee. I don't quite know how Words With Friends structures their purchase program, because I noticed they have a Store that you can buy something from, I don't know what, but it doesn't matter, because I don't really mind the ads.

Wildtangent

Wildtangent is a computer game site that's chocked full of my favorite games. It's a computer game console that you download to your computer. After you've downloaded the console you're able to try any game on the console for about an hour, or at times for a day. After you've tried the games you then can purchase it, to be downloaded to your computer for all times. However, if you're not interested in buying the game, you can buy what is called, "Wild Coins," to be used for the same games, or any of the games on the site. Of course, word games are not the only games on the console. As a matter of fact I do play a skilled game called Bang On Blitz.

Some of my other favorite games on Wildtangent are:

Greedy Words, it's a brainteaser, wherein you toss the lettered dice to see if you can form lengthy words. You'll enjoy the original game play with a bonus round. I can literally play this game for hours on end.

Jig Words, this is a game in which you're forming words to solve cool pictures. The game has two phases. There's two parts to each round in one of the phases of this game. Of course, the game is more complicated than this, this is just the shortened explanation.

Text Twist 2, in Text Twist you're shuffling letters to form words. Text Twist has at least two version on Wildtangent.

Bookworm, in Bookworm you're linking letters to create words. There's at least 3 versions of this game on the site.

Wheel Of Fortune, is played exactly like the television version, the only difference is you play it alone.

In all of the games above I've given only a brief description, they're all more detailed than I've explained.

Yahoo Games

I also play words games using another free game site. This site is under Yahoo Games, the sub site is King.com. I have three favorite games at this site, they're as follows.

Word Links, this game is played by linking provided letters into as many words as possible in five minutes.

Keyword, is played in five rounds with each round consisting of 3 of your best words.

Word Battle, this is a multi-player game for 2 to 5 players.

I've only given the simple explanation of the instructions of these games, however you can get the complete instructions on the site. Also there are more games on the site that are equally exciting.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the games that I've run across, however there's many many more that I won't even explore, for fear of becoming "addicted."

I hope you enjoy the ones that I've listed, or at least the sites listed.
